Synthetic Graphite
Minimum Order Quantity: 5000 Kg
Packaging Size | 50 Kg |
Country of Origin | Made in India |
The ultra high heat treatment temperature is required to drive the solid / solid, amorphous carbon-to-graphite phase transformation. The morphology of most synthetic graphite varies from flakey in fine powders to irregular grains and needles in coarser products.
Synthetic graphite powder is processed at ultra high temperatures, and impurities contained in the precursor carbons are significantly reduced in concentration during processing.
This occurs as a result of the high temperature vaporization of volatile impurities, which at the process temperatures utilized includes most metal oxides, sulfur, nitrogen, hydrogen, and all organic components that were part of the original petroleum or coal tar pitch.
As a result of this thermal treatment, virtually all synthetic graphite products are high purity. Synthetic graphite is available in particle sizes from 2-micrometer powders to 2 cm pieces. Purities are typically 99+% carbon.
Synthetic graphite is used in many applications including but not limited to friction, foundry, electrical carbons, fuel cell bi-polar plates, coatings, electrolytic processes, corrosion products, conductive fillers, rubber and plastic compounds, and drilling applications

Natural graphite is available in three forms, all of which are processed from naturally sourced graphite material. The three forms are amorphous graphite, flake graphite and crystalline vein graphite, and they each have unique properties that make them well-suited for certain applications
Natural flake graphite is formed when carbon material is subjected to high pressure and high temperature. The carbon source material can be either organic or inorganic, although most commercially sourced flake graphite comes from organic deposits. The pressure required is usually greater than 1 gigapascal (75,000 psi) and the temperature needed is usually higher than 750 degrees Celsius (1,380 F)
Graphite consists of sheets of trigonal planar carbon. The individual layers are called graphene. In each layer, the carbon atoms are arranged in a honeycomb lattice with a bond length of 0.142 nm, and the distance between planes is 0.335 nm. Bonding between layers is relatively weak van der Waals bonds and are often occupied by gases, which allows the graphene-like layers to be easily separated and to glide past each other
Electrical conductivity perpendicular to the layers is consequently about 1000 times lower
There are two allotropic forms called alpha (hexagonal) and beta (rhombohedral), differing in terms of the stacking of the graphene layers: stacking in alpha graphite is ABA, as opposed to ABC stacking in the energetically less stable beta graphite. Rhombohedral graphite cannot occur in pure form. Natural graphite, or commercial natural graphite, contains 5 to 15% rhombohedral graphite and this may be due to intensive milling. The alpha form can be converted to the beta form through shear forces, and the beta form reverts to the alpha form when it is heated to 1300 °C for four hours
